Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Q: I'm having trouble with my username and/or password.

A: First, make sure that you have entered both your username and password correctly.  Your user name will be your domain name, i.e. yourdomainname.com.  Passwords are case sensitive.  Your host name or address will always be your domain name, i.e.
www.domainname.com

Q: What are my FTP settings?

A: The FTP settings are as follows:
FTP Hostname/IP Address: yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com
FTP Username: yourdomain.com (without the www)
FTP Password: your WebsiteOS password.
You must upload all of your files into the Public directory. For Dreamweaver or other programs that have it, you must put in /public/ for the host (remote) directory.
**Please note: If your package supports FrontPage Extensions and you have turned on FrontPage within the FrontPage Manager, FTP has been turned off as to not conflict with FrontPage Extensions.

Q: How can I restore files that I accidentally deleted?

A: File Restore is included on the Bronze, Bronze ASP, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Plus  Hosting Plans.  It allows you to restore your site content from time-based periods, to a maximum of 4 days. While File Restore is convenient and easy to use, it is not possible to ensure that all files will be recoverable. There is no guarantee or warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied that a backup of your site content will be available at any given time. Please note that when restoring content, File Restore will overwrite existing files if they have the same filenames as the restored content. You can access File Restore in WebsiteOS by clicking on Website Management "File Restore" Next and then select the Restore Tab. Select the time period that you would like to restore to and click on Next. The system will then prompt you for the directories and files that you would like to restore. Select the files using the Ctrl key on your keyboard for multiple files and directories (Note: you can only restore from one directory path at a time). Once you have selected the files and directories, click on Restore. In the next window, you will see a summary of the request for files and directories to restore. Click on Confirm to continue. The computer will prompt for confirmation one final time. Click on OK and the Restore process will take place.

Q: How do I know how much space my Website is using?
A: To see how much space your website is using, log into your Control Panel and click on "Statistics" then on "Disk Usage".  For Windows users, another easy way to find this out is to gather all files that are on your Website and place them in a folder on your local computer. Right click on this folder and select "properties." This will tell you (usually in Megabytes or Kilobytes) the cumulative size of all files in the folder. For Macintosh users, place all files in a folder, and highlight the folder. Go to File>Get Info, and the window will display the size of the folder's contents.

Q: How can I see how many hits my site is getting?
A: If web statistics are included on your hosting plan, they are located in your Control Panel under "Statistics" then click on "WebStats".  The WebStats are generated by Webalizer.
